The Africa Impact Academy (AIA) is a program committed to equip entrepreneurs with essential skills, training, and resources to support them realize their potential, grow and overcome challenges. Our goal is to empower entrepreneurs to transform their ideas into thriving businesses, driving meaningful economic growth and sustainable development across the continent.

Position Overview

As a Research Assistant  for the African Impact Academy (AIA) at MoFund Africa, you will play a vital role in assessing the effectiveness of the program in equipping African entrepreneurs with the skills, training, and resources needed to build successful businesses. Your work will help measure how well AIA supports entrepreneurs in overcoming challenges, scaling their businesses, and contributing to sustainable economic development across the continent.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Impact Data Collection & Analysis
    • Gather quantitative and qualitative data from program participants to assess learning outcomes and business growth.
    • Conduct surveys, interviews, and focus groups to measure the effectiveness of AIA’s training and mentorship programs.
    • Track participants’ progress from idea development to business growth and sustainability.
  2. Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) Support
    • Assist in developing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to track program success, including business survival rates, revenue growth, and job creation.
    • Maintain and update a dashboard to monitor impact metrics in real time.
    • Ensure data accuracy and consistency in reporting.
  3. Impact Reporting & Insights
    • Prepare impact reports, case studies, and success stories to showcase the program’s influence on entrepreneurship.
    • Use visual data representation tools (Excel, Power BI, Tableau) to present findings effectively.
    • Highlight key insights and recommendations to enhance AIA’s future initiatives.
  4. Best Practices & Benchmarking
    • Research global and regional best practices in entrepreneurship training and incubator programs.
    • Identify successful models of impact measurement in similar programs to refine AIA’s approach.
  5. Stakeholder Engagement & Learning Support
    • Work closely with trainers, mentors, and program managers to align impact measurement with program goals.
    • Support training sessions for entrepreneurs on data collection, business performance tracking, and impact reporting.
    • Maintain and organize a database of program participants and impact results.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, Business, Development Studies, Statistics, Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • Experience in monitoring and evaluation (M&E), impact assessment, or business performance tracking.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools (Excel, SPSS, Power BI, or similar).
  • Strong report writing, research, and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of entrepreneurship ecosystems, small business development, and impact investing is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with different stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
